Paul has a degree in Civil Engineering and German from Loughborough University.

Career to Date

After being a Patent Examiner and working for another firm of attorneys, Paul joined Withers & Rogers in 2001, became a Chartered Patent Attorney in 2002, a European Patent Attorney in 2005 and a partner in our Birmingham office in 2007.

Personal Skills

Paul follows a pragmatic, client focused approach to his work. He is a competent German speaker, and continues to build on his knowledge of searching and competitor intelligence tools, which dates from his time as an Examiner.

Sector Experience

Automotive, including door systems, latches , brakes and suspensions for passenger and heavy commercial vehicles; packaging and packaging machinery; medical devices; and construction equipment.

Client Experience

Paul undertakes general patent drafting and prosecution work, European Patent Office oppositions and oral proceedings, patent enforcement, and freedom to use opinions for ArvinMeritor and one of the UK’s leading suppliers of packaging for fresh foodstuffs.

Notable Successes

Paul has successfully handled a number of European Patent Office oppositions and has often achieved favourable decisions for his clients without the need to attend oral proceedings.
