Career to dateMatthew joined our Bristol office in 1998 following three years as a Patent Examiner at the UK Patent Office. He became a partner in 2005 and is based at our Bristol office. Personal skillsDuring his time as an Examiner, Matthew developed a thorough understanding of the European approach to business method and software inventions through examining many applications in this contentious area. Matthew’s degree provided him with an excellent springboard for handling the most technically and mathematically complex of cases. Sector experienceMatthew’s work covers a broad range of electronics, focussing heavily on mobile telecommunications (2, 2.5 and 3G), digital signal processing and RF engineering. Client experienceMatthew’s clients include world-leading companies in the telecommunications, electronics and computing sectors and several leading UK universities. Notable successesMatthew has succeeded in obtaining broad patent protection for highly mathematical, algorithmic inventions relating to base band processing on behalf of a range of clients. Matthew has also enjoyed considerable success in securing the allowance of patents in the business method and software arena. On a personal note...Matthew enjoys spending time with his young family. When time allows, Matthew also likes to indulge in badminton, travel, Roman/Byzantine history and following the fortunes of the Welsh rugby team. |
