Matthew HowellMEng, CPAAssociateHigher Education Matthew graduated from Nottingham University in 2001 with an MEng in Electronic Engineering with French. Career to Date On graduation, Matthew spent almost two years working as a software engineer for a major telecommunications company, whilst during university vacations he undertook work placements at a large UK-based manufacturer of electronic test and measurement equipment. He entered the patent profession as a trainee with another firm of Patent and Trade Mark Attorneys in 2003, and joined our Bristol office in March 2007. Matthew qualified as a UK Patent Attorney in 2007. Personal Skills Matthew’s broad academic background and industrial experience enable him to understand inventions and other technical subject-matter quickly, which is of great help in drafting new patent applications and overcoming obstacles encountered during the process of obtaining a patent. Matthew is also fluent in French, thanks to a year spent studying Electronic Engineering at the INSA (National Institute of Applied Sciences) in Lyon as part of his degree. Sector Experience Matthew specialises in electronics and telecommunications, although he has experience of technologies in other fields, such as the automotive and mechanical engineering sectors. Matthew also has experience of filing and prosecuting UK and European Community design applications. Client Experience Matthew has undertaken work on behalf of a variety of clients, including TTPCom, PA Consulting and the University of Bristol. On a personal note... Outside of work Matthew is a keen motorcyclist, and has toured in the UK and Europe, notably the French Alps. He also enjoys playing the guitar. |
